There are five categories for the West Midlands Sports Awards 2016 including one special award, the BBC Local Radio Power of Sport award.

2018 Nominations

The Categories for 2018  include Community Coach of the Year, Community Club of the Year, Community Project of the Year and Aspiring Talent, as well as our special award, the BBC Local Radio Power of Sport Award, recognising the positive impact sport and physical activity can have on an individual’s life.

In addition BBC Midlands will announce their Unsung Hero regional winner at the West Midlands Community Sports Awards, who will then be invited to attend the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

One individual or team will also be inducted into the BBC Midlands Sporting Hall of Fame, joining previous winners including Sir Stanley Matthews, Dennis Amiss, Gordon Banks, Dave Moorcroft and Richie Woodall.

Event Info


The West Midlands Community Sports Awards is run by six County Sports Partnerships in partnership with University of Birmingham Sport and BBC Midlands to celebrate the power of sport in local communities.

Winners are selected locally and given a ‘golden ticket’ into the West Midlands Community Sports Awards, which will be held on Thursday 6th December at the University of Birmingham.

Organised by the 6 County Sports Partnerships in West Midlands – Sport Birmingham, Sport Across Staffordshire & Stoke on Trent (SASSOT), Sports Partnership Herefordshire & Worcestershire, Coventry, Solihull & Warwickshire Sport, Black Country BeActive Partnership and Energize Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, in partnership with University of Birmingham and BBC Midlands, nominate the very best talent, coaches, community clubs and projects at this high profile, star studded event.
