About this deal

Porter is typically a rich, malty and deep flavoured beer and works well as a style to add additional flavours to. Stout has roasted barley and porter doesn’t. However, my porter recipe included roasted barley so it doesn’t follow this rule. Porter As A Style The smell is a hard one to put my finger on. It's sweet, and I'd almost say some sort some light fruits accompany the hops. The JSESSIONID cookie is used by New Relic to store a session identifier so that New Relic can monitor session counts for an application.

Hops can be subtle with just enough bitterness to balance the malt or in American porters be quite bold with dry hopping and aroma hops used in abundance. There is not much difference between stout and porter and the names have been used interchangeably throughout dark beers existence.

To be honest, we were surprised that the beer turned out so well since none of us had brewed beer before.

In an 12 qt pot, steep the grains in a hop bag in 1 1/2 gallons of sterile water at 155 degrees for half an hour. Remove the grains. However, we recommend to you, to use 1.5kg of unhopped liquid malt extract (LME) – again the colour appropriate to the type of beer being made (see colour guide below). I was really, really excited when I first saw this in a shop tonight. It's limited release and I hope is from the most recent batch (otherwise I'd be worried about its age).Yeast: Predominantly, neutral or medium ester producing ale yeasts are used for fermenting porter. S-04 and US-05 are common dry yeasts. Liquid yeast strains have a lot more options but mainly focused on British or US strains. If you have come looking for a history of porter as a beer style I’m afraid you are going to be a little disappointed. Beer history isn’t a strong point of mine. There are plenty of more knowledgeable people to read. If you were to use 1kg (2x500gs) of dry malt extract (DME) – the colour appropriate to the type of beer (see colour guide below), you will produce a beer slightly higher in ABV yet at the same time retaining its body.
